PARENTAL
PRESSURE
Parental Pressure, a son of Regal Classic was 9 years old
when Alec claimed him for Bruno Schickedanz. He claimed him
for $25,000 and at the time of the claim the horse had not
won a race in the last two and a half years. Two weeks after
coming to Alec’s barn, Parental Pressure found the winner’s
circle in a $32,000 claimer. Twelve days later he came back
to win a $62,500 optional claimer. After a couple more races
at Woodbine Alec took the horse to New York for the winter.
There Parental Pressure won a money allowance at the 1 1/16
mile distance at Aqueduct. Sent off at 66-1, he stumbled at
the start but quickly recovered to dictate the pace, with
second choice Wild Imagination in close contention. They raced
one-two into the stretch, with Parental Pressure shrugging
off Wild Imagination’s attempts to pass him to win by
one length in 1:43.18 and earning a career-best Beyer Speed
Figure of 108. Parental Pressure then came right back to run
second in the Aqueduct Handicap, a Grade 3 stakes.
SALTY
NOTE
On November 13, 1999 Alec claimed Salty Note for $40,000 on
behalf of Bruno Schickedanz. Two weeks later Salty Note won
the 1 3/4 mile Valedictory Handicap by 5 lengths, making it
the first stakes win for Alec. Four weeks later Salty Note
was second in the Gallant Fox Handicap G3 at Aqueduct with
a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 103. Salty Note went on
to win 2 more Stake races, the St Brendan at Laurel and the
John B Campbell at Pimlico.
CHOPININA
Chopinina, a fiery, fussy, grey filly owned and bred by Steve
Stavro gave Alec one of the biggest highlight of his short
training career. After taking over her training she won two
optional claiming races for Alec. It was then that Alec decided
to take a long shot and enter her in the Million dollar Atto
mile against the boys. Chopinina, a 55-to-1 shot was brilliant,
setting the pace, taking the field to the half in a blazing
44 4/5 seconds, then holding on to finish behind Good Journey
by only a length. That year Alec guided Chopinina to a Sovereign
award for Canada’s 2002 Champion Female Turf Horse.
GRASSA DONNA
Grassa Donna, a Fast ‘n Royal filly, bred by owner Bruno
Schickedanz came to Alec’s barn as a two year old. She
improved dramatically after undergoing throat surgery and
romped in a $80,000 claimer , running the 1 1/16 mile in 1:42.3
, one of the fastest at Woodbine in 2000. She was a close
second in the La Lorgnette Stakes followed by another win
at the allowance level. Grassa Donna was 3-3-0 out of 11 starts
with earnings of $153,672.
